STATEMENT OF MOTIVATION

I am usually concerned with the universal and international.
Occasionally I will portray the specific and particular.
Therefore works of nature and rites of passage are regular features.

I am not aiming for realism, but am more concerned with the mood and thoughts
behind the painting - often these are concerned with something that
enchanted or concerned me, or I could start with splashing a colour or shape
which delighted me.

Just working with the paint triggers off ideas or emotions.
I add associative ideas, philosophic thoughts and memories before I
turn to the consideration of balance and proportion,
to ultimately build up a composite picture.
